BEDFORD – A Bedford man was arrested on Wednesday, April 2, after police allegedly found him intoxicated and lying in a yard on 22nd Street.
According to an affidavit for probable cause filed by the Bedford Police Department, officers were dispatched to a report of two males in the 1000 block of 22nd Street, with one of the males lying in the yard. The caller expressed concern that the male lying in his yard was impaired and stated that the other male was in a wheelchair.
Upon arrival, officers identified the male in the yard as 25-year-old Lesley Atkins.
The affidavit states that Atkins, who was initially lying down, became agitated and exhibited rapid speech and paranoia while speaking with officers. Officers detected the odor of alcohol on his breath. Atkins refused offers of assistance and was taken into custody.
Atkins reportedly resisted officers while being placed into the patrol vehicle for transport to the jail.
During the booking process, Atkins admitted to smoking “dope’ and provided a breath sample with a result of .138 alcohol content.
Atkins was arrested on charges of public intoxication, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct.
Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent unless convicted through due legal proceedings. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
