BLOOMINGTON – Bedford North Lawrence finished second during the Bloomington North Invitational during unified track action on Saturday.
The Cougars won the meet with 189 points, clipping the Stars by a single point. Mooresville was third with 65.
BNL’s Tanner Robbins broke the school unified shot put record, tossing the weight 48-7 to break the mark of Samuel Jackson (47-3 3/4 in 2018). Robbins also won his flight in the 100-meter dash in 12.08 seconds and the long jump in 19-3 1/4.
Other winners for the Stars included Alex Nubbie (17.17 in the 100 flight), Brax Huber (58.42 in the 400) and the 400 relay (Ethan Robinson, Philip Matson, Huber and Robbins in 51.20).
“Between us missing a few kids and being able to enter twice as many kids into each event than normal, I asked the kids who would be willing to step up and try a new event, and several rose to the challenge today, and outperformed expectations,” BNL coach Mike Branam said “They gave it all they had, and I am pleased with their performance.
“It is always fun to compete against strong teams like Bloomington North. We have a friendly rivalry, and the kids on both teams really step it up a notch whenever we see each other. We beat them on our home track a couple weeks ago, and this was about as close as you can get.”
BNL will celebrate Senior Night and host Columbus East, Seymour and Barr Reeve on Monday.
