Bedford man arrested after police receive phone call about a trespasser

BEDFORD – A Bedford man was arrested Saturday when Bedford Police officers were called to the 800 block of 27th Street after a report of trespassing.

When an officer arrived at 7:28 p.m. they made their way to the side of the house in an attempt to find the person.

Mathew Jeter

The officers spotted 41-year-old Matthew Jeter in the yard of a residence. Police say Jeter appeared to be intoxicated.

Jeter told the officers he was invited to the home. Both individuals said they knew Jeter but had not invited him to their home. They told police, they saw Jeter back his truck up in the driveway with a passenger, his daughter.

Jeter told police he formerly lived in one of the homes and still had property there. Jeter’s truck was found parked in the drive of a home in the 800 block of 27th Street.

Jeter told police he had smoked marijuana prior to the incident. In his pocket police found a marijuana vape pen and it was placed on the hood of the police vehicle. However, Jeter later grabbed the pen from the hood of the vehicle and shoved it down his pants in an attempt to conceal it. The item was removed from and was placed back on the hood of the patrol car.

The officers then spoke to Jeter’s daughter who told police that earlier in the day Jeter received some white stuff and put it in his nose.

The daughter was released to a family friend. Jeter was arrested on charges of public intoxication, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and neglect of a dependent.
