Bedford Police warn businesses and individuals to beware of counterfeit money

BEDFORD – The Bedford Police Department has received multiple reports recently of counterfeit bills being circulated in the city.

According to Chief Terry Moore, the bills that police have seized will pass a counterfeit marker test, but the bills are altered to show a larger value.

“We want local businesses and individuals to be aware of what to look for to ensure you’re not accepting a bill that is not real,” added Chief Moore. “The attached photographs show where the security threads are on bills, so you will know where to look. Please make sure you are checking the security threads and watermarks to be certain the bills you accept are not fake.”

Anyone with information about the counterfeit money is asked to call the Bedford Police Department at 812-275-3311.
