INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana State Library is pleased to announce Rose Shingledecker as its new certification program director and legal consultant.
A licensed attorney, Shingledecker has experience in both law and libraries. Prior to law school, she worked for nearly eight years at the Indianapolis Public Library, first in circulation and later with volunteer resources. During law school, she served as a research assistant at the Ruth Lilly Law Library at the Indiana University McKinney School of Law supporting professors with their research needs. After graduation, she worked at the Indiana Court of Appeals and then the Office of Judicial Administration, primarily doing legal research and writing and providing administrative support. As an adjunct professor at IU McKinney, she taught a legal writing course to upper-level law students.
“Although I’ve spent the last decade focused on the law, I’ve never lost my love of libraries and public service. I really enjoyed helping library patrons connect to resources, and I learned so much from my library colleagues. In many ways, joining the Indiana State Library staff feels like a homecoming,” Shingledecker said.
“In this new role, I most look forward to connecting with and supporting the library workers that provide exceptional, essential public service to Hoosiers across the State,” she added.
Outside of work, Shingledecker tries to keep up with the reading for her two book clubs. She is currently reading “The Boat of Longing” by O. E. Rølvaag and “GAIA, Queen of Ants” by Hamid Ismailov. She also enjoys piecing quilts, learning to play guitar and spending time at the family cabin in the rolling hills of eastern Greene County.
