Nine people were arrested on drug and theft charges after a report of a stolen laptop

SEYMOUR – On Thursday, March 23, Seymour Police Department officers received information about a person at 116 St. Louis Avenue who was in possession of a stolen laptop that belonged to a trustee in Jennings County.

When officers arrived to investigate the theft of the computer they found evidence of drug use.

Officers requested and received a search warrant for the home. During the search officers, located controlled substances, prescription medication, and drug paraphernalia, a street sign belonging to the City of Seymour, a street sign belonging to the Jackson County Highway Department, and two beer kegs belonging to Rails Craft Brew & Eatery.

Officers arrested:

Joseph Laupus

Joseph Laupus, 70, of Seymour on charges of theft, maintaining a common nuisance, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Darryl Booker

Darryl Booker, 55, of Seymour, on a charge of visiting a common nuisance.

Justin Hickman

Justin Hickman, 36, of Vallonia on charges of maintaining a common nuisance, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a syringe, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Theresa Long

Theresa Long, 55, of Seymour, on a charge of visiting a common nuisance.

Matthew Nance

Matthew Nance, 38, of Columbus, on a charge of visiting a common nuisance.

Eduin Recarte

Eduin Recarte, 32, of Seymour, on charges of maintaining a common nuisance, theft, possession of drug paraphernalia, and an outstanding Jackson County warrant.

Corrie Burch

Corrie Burch, 34, of Columbus, on a charge of visiting a common nuisance.

Karen Dubbin, 52, of Seymour, is facing charges of dealing in a controlled substance in a Jackson County Sheriff’s Department case and a new charge of visiting a common nuisance.

David Burke, 51, of Seymour, on charges of visiting a common nuisance and possession of drug paraphernalia

Due to the bad living conditions at the location, officers requested the assistance of the Seymour Building Commissioner and the Seymour Ordinance Administrator to examine the location. The building commissioner and the ordinance administrator will contact the Jackson County Health Department and all three entities will work with the owner of the location to bring it up to code.

The Seymour Police Department was assisted by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, the Seymour Building Commissioner, and the Seymour Ordinance Administrator.
