BEDFORD – A Mitchell man was sentenced to the Indiana Department of Correction Thursday after he failed to comply with the rules of probation.
Lawrence Superior Court II Judge Robert Cline sentenced 37-year-old Dustin Slate to 850 days in prison. He was given credit for 16 days served.
On November 11, 2022, Slate pleaded guilty to a Level 6 felony charge of unlawful possession of a syringe in a negotiated plea deal. The charge of possession of meth was dismissed.
Judge Cline sentenced Slate to 910 days in jail and suspended 884 days and he was given credit for 13 days served. He was placed on supervised probation for 365 days.
However, Slate failed to comply with the rules of probation and failed several drug tests. An arrest warrant for a petition to revoke his probation was issued on March 20, 2023.
“When individuals fail to follow the terms of probation while being given the opportunity to remain in the community, they know the consequences of their actions, and in this case, it is prison,” said Lawrence County Prosecutor Samuel Arp.
