MITCHELL – The Mitchell Bluejackets snatched the lead late in the game in a 6-5 victory over Borden on Wednesday. The game was tied at five with Bluejackets batting in the bottom of the sixth when Ben Seitzinger drew a walk, scoring the go ahead run.
Borden scored three runs in the first inning, with Dylan Toler, Brody Kennedy, and Zander Keith each had RBIs in the frame.
After Borden added another run in the top of the fifth, the Bluejackets answered with one of their own when Simon Gaines’s sac fly scored Bryson Zeeks who doubled to start the inning and advanced to third on a single by Ashton Luman.
Gaines (1-0) got the win for Bluejackets going two and a third innings, allowing zero runs on zero hits, striking out five and walking zero. He relieved Seitzinger who allowed six hits and five runs over four and two-thirds innings, striking out five and walking one
AJ Agnew took the loss for Borden. The hurler allowed three hits and four runs over one and two-thirds innings, striking out one.
The Bluejackets saw the ball well today, racking up eight hits in the game. Kody Earl and Luman each racked up multiple hits for Bluejackets. They were also sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error.
Mitchell (1-0) will host Shoals on Saturday at Noon at Gary Seitzinger Field.
