Ohio man arrested after a pursuit on I-70

NEW CASTLE – An Ohio man is behind bars for operating a vehicle while intoxicated after leading police on a pursuit across Interstate 70 and ending on East Street in Indianapolis.

At approximately 10:30 p.m., Indiana State Police Dispatch reported that Ohio Highway Patrol was looking for a blue Hyundai Sonata on Interstate 70 in an attempt to do a welfare check on the driver.  Trooper Avery Weisbrodt was standing by on Interstate 70 to assist with locating the vehicle and eventually found a vehicle matching the description near the 104-mile marker (Greenfield exit).

Trooper Weisbrodt continued to follow the vehicle until it passed through a construction zone on Interstate 70.  After clearing the construction zone, Trooper Weisbrodt established probable cause to stop the vehicle for an equipment violation and check the welfare of the driver.

Once Trooper Weisbrodt activated his emergency light, the vehicle accelerated in an alleged attempt to flee.  The pursuit continued until the vehicle lost control and crashed at the 111-mile marker on Interstate 65.  After the crash, the vehicle continued south on Interstate 65, exited on East Street in Indianapolis, and eventually pulled over without further incident.

Trooper Weisbrodt took the driver, who was identified as Ryan B.  Adams, 28, of Dublin, Ohio, into custody and requested medical personnel to check Adams for injuries.  While speaking to Adams, Trooper Weisbrodt noticed signs of impairment.

Adams is facing preliminary charges of resisting arrest in a motor vehicle, operating a vehicle while intoxicated, public intoxication endangerment, leaving the scene of an accident, and reckless driving

Adams was transported to Hancock County Jail without incident after being cleared by medical professionals.
