BEDFORD – A Fairland man was arrested on a warrant after a Lawrence County Flock Camera notification sent a report that notified police about a habitual traffic offender traveling south on State Road 37 from Old State Road 37 on March 28th.
Lawrence County Sgt. Andrew Phillips stopped the white pickup truck traveling south on State Road 37 at State Road 58.
The officer stopped the vehicle in the area of U and 29th Streets.
Byrne told the officer “he was not driving or operating a motor vehicle but was traveling in a private capacity in a private automobile” saying “he was driving a commercial activity and was working at a job site at Garden Villa”.
Byrne was then informed he was being detained on a charge of being a habitual traffic offender. Byrne refused to get out of the vehicle or turn off the vehicle and sped away.
Sgt. Phillip and Bedford Police Department Assistance Chief Joe Dewess gave chase but lost the pickup.
Officers from Lawrence County Police Department and Bedford Police Department searched the area but did not locate Byrne or his truck.
Bedford Police Department located Byrne’s truck at CVS Pharmacy but Byrne was not there. The vehicle was towed.
Bedford Police Department then received reports of damage to personal property in the 2000 block of 27th Street. Byrne had driven into a yard between a house and garage and exited onto U Street damaging a second yard.
The information was forwarded to the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office and a warrant was issued for Byrne’s arrest.
