FRENCH LICK – Mitchell High School remains undefeated, moving to a 5-0 record after Saturday’s win, where they shut out Patoka Lake Athletic Conference Opponent Springs Valley, winning 6-0.
The Bluejackets got started early against the Blackhawks, scoring in the first inning after an RBI single from Ben Seitzinger, which brought home AJ Sarver, who got on base with a single in the previous at-bat. Mitchell knocked home another run in the inning, when Kody Earl doubled to right field, allowing Seitzinger to score.
The Bluejackets scored two more runs the following inning, thanks to two more RBI singles from Seitzinger and Sarver. A steal of home from Earl in the third put them up 5-0, with the final run scored of the game coming in the sixth inning on a sac fly from Seitzinger, which allowed Simon Gaines to score for his third RBI of the game.
Sarver and Seitzinger each had three hits to lead the team.
Seitzinger, who finished 3-3 from the plate, also picked up the win at the mound for Mitchell, his second of the season. The junior pitched for five innings, allowing just three hits on his way to striking out seven of 17 batters faced.
