Lawrence County Sheriff donates car to Springville Academy for resource officer use

BEDFORD – Lawrence County Sheriff Greg Day reported to the commissioners Tuesday morning that he has donated at 2017 Dodge Charger to the Springville Community Academy.

The vehicle will be used by the school’s resource officer B.J. Fulkerson. The academy will have unlimited and sole use of the vehicle.

“This use will continue until the Springville Community Academy determines there is no longer a need or use for the vehicle and then it will be returned to the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department,” according to the contract.

The Academy will be responsible for insurance, maintenance, fuel and registration plates.

The Springville Community Academy Rural Foundation board, members approved the salary and benefits package for Fulkerson.

Fulkerson, an officer with over 20 years of experience for the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department, was selected by the board for the position, and approved by Sheriff Greg Day.

Fulkerson’s duties include building safety, counseling students and relaying necessary information to other police agencies. His salary is being paid by the Academy.

Sheriff Day reported there were 113 inmates in the jail Tuesday morning, of those 94 were males, 19 females, 10 Department of Correction holds, three parole holds an nine Level 6 felons.
