MITCHELL – It was Senior Night at Gary Seitzinger Field on Monday, with Mitchell High School honoring seniors Carsyn Herald and Owen Modglin prior to the team’s matchup against Crawford County.
With both in the lineup, the Bluejackets dominated the Wolfpack for the second time this season, earning their second mercy-rule victory over them this year and winning 12-2 in the fifth inning.
Both teams were scoreless in Monday night’s game until the third, when Mitchell exploded for a seven-run inning, with Kody Earl, Bryson Zeeks and Simon Gaines all batting in runs in the inning.
After Crawford County got two runs of their own on the board in the fourth, but it proved inconsequential with the Bluejackets scoring four more of their own in the bottom of the inning, with RBIs again from Earl and Zeeks, as well as Ashton Luman.
The game’s final run came in the bottom of the fifth, when Mitchell’s Ethan Turner drew a walk with the bases loaded, forcing in AJ Sarver from third to put them beyond the 10-run lead threshold, which ended the game.
Earl, Zeeks and Herald each contributed two hits the Bluejackets’ nine total, with Earl finishing the game with a team-high three RBIs.
Mitchell held the Wolfpack to just two hits in the game with Luman at the mound for three innings. He finished with four strikeouts on his way to earning his sixth win of the season.
