Shirley M. Ray, 86, of Bedford passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2023, at 5:10 p.m. at IU Health Hospice House in Bloomington.
She was born in Bedford on October 13, 1936, to Lovell Sowders and Lilly Mae (Winegar) Sowders. Shirley retired from Kroger Grocery where she was a meat cutter in Bedford and Bloomington. She was an avid card player, and enjoyed flowers and traveling with the “Happy Travelers”.
Survivors include her children, Sherri (Rick) Hoggatt of Bedford, Tina Dixon of Bedford, Suzanne Purdy of Bedford, and Robert Purdy, Jr. of Bedford, eight grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, two sisters, Carole Andis of Bedford, and Kaye Kelley of Bedford.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, James Ray in 2021, two brothers, Lovell Sowders, Jr., and Danny Sowders, one sister, Betty Deckard,
Cremation was chosen.
Cresthaven Funeral Home is entrusted with her care.
