BEDFORD – The Board of Works approved Bedford Fire Department Chief John Hughes’ request to hire new firefighter George Evan Vehslage.
He replaces a firefighter who left the department for another career choice.
Fire Chief Hughes informed the Board of Works his department is now back to full strength.
In June the Board of Works approved the promotion of John T. Porter to Senior Firefighter. He will fill the position following the resignation of Andrew Roberts.
The board also approved in June 2nd Class Firefighter Ethan Lipscomb’s permanent status after completing his probation requirements.
The hiring of Vehslage to the department now closes the hiring gap that once existed.
