Dennis Ray Cooney, 76, of Mitchell, passed away at 9:42 p.m. on Friday, July 21, 2023, at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.
He was born February 9, 1947, in Orleans, IN, the son of Wilbur H. Cooney and Rudy (Hopkins) Cooney-Mesarosh. Dennis was a proud U.S. veteran of the U.S. Army. He enjoyed cars, playing cards, and sixty’s music.
He is survived by his son, David Cooney, and daughter, Cheryl Cooney both of N.Y.; mother, Rudy Mesarosh; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and eight siblings, Linda Mounce, Brenda Crapro, Peggy Reid, Cora Miller, Larry Cooney, Billy Mesarosh, Harry Mesarosh and Karl Mesarosh.
He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Wilbur Cooney.
The funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at the Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home in Orleans with David Crapro officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Orleans American Legion Post 69. Friends are invited to visitation at the funeral home on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until service time.
