Man facing drug charges after a traffic stop

JUDAH – A Spencer man was arrested Friday after Lawrence County Sheriff Greg Day stopped him for a traffic violation at the storage units on Old State Road 37 near Crest Motel Road.

A second deputy stopped to assist. Sheriff Day told Officer Chris Griggs he believed the driver of the Kawasaki motorcycle was lying to him about his identity, age, and address.

Police say the driver, later identified as 29-year-old Joshua Turpin, was visibly nervous, sweating profusely and breathing heavily.

The male finally admitted his true identity and told police he was wanted on a warrant in Jackson County and he was detained.

He then admitted he had a “bag of dope” in his pocket. Police located the baggie containing crystal meth. He told officers he was on his way to a home to sell the drug but then changed his story saying he was going to trade the drugs for heroin and suboxone.

Turpin was arrested on charges of possession of meth and false identification.
