BEDFORD – Lawrence County Sheriff Greg Day told the commissioners Tuesday morning the jail numbers continue to rise since the Department of Corrections has failed to transport sentenced inmates.

Sheriff Day reported there were 137 inmates this morning housed at the jail, of those 104 were males, 33 were females, 20 were Department of Correction holds, three were parole holds, and 14 were Level 6 felons.

He reported the Department of Corrections is far behind in picking up inmates.

“We have a lot of DOC inmates, and those numbers keep climbing every week,” added Sheriff Day.
