BEDFORD – A Mitchell woman was arrested after Bedford Police say she stole lottery tickets from her place of employment.
On June 17, 2023, Officers responded to Kindred Spirits on L Street after a report of a theft.
The store manager reported that 23-year-old Mary Hopper, of Mitchell, who was an employee, had been stealing from the business while she was working.
She was caught on security footage stealing scratch-off lottery tickets. The footage showed Hopper removing two $20 tickets from the display case, scratching them, scanning them at a register, and then disposing of them in the trash, and failing to render payment.
The manager reported she believes Hopper has stolen approximately $160 in cash, however, she has not yet found the video to prove it.
Police spoke to Hopper who denied any wrongdoing. She finally admitted after viewing the video footage and offered to pay the business for the stolen lottery tickets.
The information was forwarded to the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office and a warrant was issued for her arrest on a charge of theft.
