PAXTON – A collision between a train and a car resulted in a Linton driver being hospitalized.
According to the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred on August 8th, at 3:15 p.m., near Paxton, at the crossing of Old Highway 41 and County Road 100 East.
Upon receiving a 911 call, a Sullivan County Sheriff’s Lieutenant investigated the collision and determined that the driver of an SUV, Ashley Leffler from Linton, disregarded the railroad crossing arms. The northbound CSX train subsequently struck the SUV.
Leffler was transported to Terre Haute Regional Hospital for the treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration emphasizes the importance of adhering to all flashing railroad crossings. It’s noted that a freight train requires up to a mile or more to come to a complete stop.
