SELLERSBURG – Silver Creek conquered Bedford North Lawrence 7-1 during the girls high school soccer season opener on Saturday.
Britta Warren, a senior playing her first career game, scored the lone goal for the Stars in the second half. She gathered a long pass from defender Leah Wagner and converted a one-on-one shot against the goalie.
“I am happy with how the girls played,” BNL coach Bret Roberts said. “Silver Creek is a tough team and last year we didn’t play a full game with them due to the 9-goal rule. So to be able to score on them is great. I am also excited to score the first game.
“We need to work on our defense. If we would have played them later in the season, I think the score would not have been so high. I put a lot of new players in and was impressed by how well they did.”
The Stars will visit New Albany for their Hoosier Hills Conference opener on Monday.
