Work delayed on Bridge 150 again

BEDFORD – Highway Superintendent Brandi Webb reported to the commissioners Tuesday morning that delays continue on Bridge 150.

The closing of the bridge has been delayed now due to the CSX Railroad authorities.

“The railroad has asked to delay the start date now to after Thanksgiving,” added Webb. “They say they have no personnel to work on the project. We (Webb and CLR) have pushed back requesting to begin at the end of the month and are waiting on their response. If we can’t get them to start at the end of the month, we will have to have a new completion date approved by INDOT.”

The work was delayed earlier due to Frontier Communications’ failure to get their lines moved. That has now been completed.

Bridge 150 is a continuous encased steel beam bridge constructed around 1930-1935

The Lawrence County Commissioner approved a contract with CLR for $2.6 million to replace Bridge 150. The county will pay $319,536.10.

Bridge 36 on Locust Road, just west of State Road 446 is closed indefinitely.

The 1999 bridge spans the South Fork of Leatherwood Creek. The bridge was deemed structurally deficient in a past bridge inspection. The bridge is scheduled to be replaced this fall.

County officials are asking motorists to find an alternative route when traveling.
