Mitchell School Board addresses mounting traffic concerns at Hatfield

MITCHELL – The MCS board met earlier this week, addressing issues such as traffic congestion around Hatfield Elementary. With additional roadwork, including blacktop beginning Tuesday, there was a question of how the traffic would be managed.

The Mitchell City Police Chief Troy Lobosky and Mayor Nathan Jenkins lodged their concerns with the area around Hancock Avenue and Teke Burton Drive.

With a single lane trying to handle both school bus and car traffic for parents dropping off children, it has proved a safety concern as well. A volunteer fireman became stuck in traffic, proving the traffic jam is a hindering factor to emergency response times

These problems are not new. They have been talked about but never dealt with in years prior, but with more and more parents driving their kids to school as opposed to using the bus system, the issue is only getting worse.

Dr. Brent Comer arranged a meeting at 9 a.m. Tuesday to discuss the problems with Mitchell Mayor Nathan Jenkins. The results of the meeting are as of yet unknown.
