OOLITIC – A Bedford woman was arrested Saturday, August 19 after a Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to an accident at Lafayette and Hoosier avenues in Oolitic.
The caller reported the vehicle had struck a tree line and was now attempting to leave the scene.
Deputies, Bedford Police officers, Bedford City Fire Department, Oolitic Volunteer Fire Department, and an IU LifeLine ambulance responded to the crash.
When they arrived they found a silver GMC Terrain off the road in the tree line. The driver 21-year-old Ella Roberts told police she went off the roadway and then could not get out of the tree line.
Roberts told police she had just left Banadana’s Bar & Grill in Bedford.
Roberts was examined at the scene by the ambulance crew and first responders. She refused to be transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Roberts failed several field sobriety tests. Roberts blew a 0.156 on a portable breath test. She was then detained and transported to IU Health Hospital for a blood draw.
After the blood draw, she was transported to jail on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
The vehicle was towed by Jackson’s Heavy Haul to their lot.
