BEDFORD – After the dissolution of the White River Port Authority earlier this year, property acquired from the Indiana Railroad Company was approved for donation to the Bedford Urban Enterprise Association by the Bedford City Council when it met last night.
The White River Port Authority owned the Industrial loop that starts just east of the CSX Railroad line and runs from J street east. They purchased the loop for $250,000 and in agreement with Indiana Rail Roads, the deed has restrictions that prevent the land being used for purposes other than commercial or industrial purposes.
With the dissolution of the White River Port Authority earlier this year, the deed reverted back to the City of Bedford. Now, with the deed being so restricted, “The ownership interest is limited to whatever the railroad had,” said City Attorney Greg Pittman.
The only way to remove the restriction on the property is to get the Indiana Railroad Company to sign off on it, which is a difficult process.
Greg Pittman explained that it’s likely the Bedford Urban Enterprise Association will see if someone who has property abutting the land is interested in purchasing it.
