BEDFORD – A man was arrested Sunday after Bedford Police officers responded to several 911 calls reporting a man standing in the roadway in the area of 20th and I streets.
When police arrived at 1:42 p.m. they found 52-year-old Daniel Yarberry attempting to direct traffic and harassing motorists.
When officers arrived they found several individuals out of their homes and vehicles. A bystander captured Yarberry on video. He is seen standing in the middle of the road with a least three vehicles stopped.
While officers were watching the video, Yarberry walked south on I Street. He was found in the roadway preventing a vehicle from leaving by standing in front of it. An officer approached Yarberry and told him to stop. Yarberry backed away from the officer. He then turned from the officer and walked away continuing north on I Street. Yarberry walked past his house and entered the roadway again. Officers had to force Yarberry, who was intoxicated, out of the roadway into the grass where officers attempted to handcuff him. He continued to struggle with the officer and had to be forcibly handcuffed.
Once restrained, Yarberry refused to walk to the patrol car. An officer had to pick Yarberry up and carry him to the police car. Yarberry refused to get into the vehicle. He had to be forced into the vehicle.
While en route to the jail, Yarberry continued to rant incoherently. He was also concerned about his home being secured and wanted police to contact his brother to care for his cat.
Yarberry was arrested on charges of public intoxication, resisting arrest by fleeing and force, and disorderly conduct.
