BEDFORD – A Bedford woman was arrested Saturday after Lawrence County Central Dispatch received a Life 360 crash alert from a caller reporting an accident south of the intersection of Tunnelton Road and Duncan Hill Lane.
When deputies arrived they found Raven Russell sitting on the asphalt holding her head. The driver 19-year-old Lainey Jean was standing near Russell. Another passenger Abygail Davis was walking away from the black Chevrolet Equinox.
The vehicle was 15 to 20 feet off the roadway in a ravine.
Russell told police she was eight weeks pregnant with triplets and her head was hurting. IU LifeLine ambulance crew medically checked her.
Jean told police a cat ran out in front of the vehicle and in order to avoid hitting the cat she swerved causing them to crash into a tree in the ravine.
Police say Jean was acting erratically and her speech was slurred. However, she was not intoxicated by alcohol but admitted to taking Percocet enhanced with Fentanyl.
Her passengers told police there was no cat in the roadway, and that Jean just ran off the roadway.
She did submit to a blood test that showed she had Fentanyl in her system. Jean was arrested on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated controlled substance.
Mikel’s Towing retrieved the vehicle from the ravine.
