BEDFORD – Bedford North Lawrence waited through a lightning delay to post a victory over Jasper during girls high school golf action on the back nine of Otis Park on Tuesday afternoon.
The No.14 Stars fired a team total of 161, while Jasper finished with 184.
Kinleigh Root earned medalist honors with a 3-over 38 that included eight pars on her card. All her damage came on the infamous 14th hole. Chloe McFaddin posted a 39 that featured an eagle on the par-5 17th, and Kenley Craig birdied the 16th while carding a 39.
“They went out and got it done for us,” BNL coach Kori Johnston said. “The 14th was a rough hole for a lot of us (BNL had three 7s among its five players) but they did a great job of bouncing back and finishing strong. Those three do a fantastic job of recovering from bad shots and staying locked in throughout the round. I’m very proud of how they finished.”
Ellie Horton capped the BNL scoring with 45. Maddy Gaug and Molly Kissel paced the Wildcats with 45s.
“It’s good to see some solid scores being posted and swings getting dialed in with conference and post season right around the corner,” Johnston said. “We’ve got a little more work to do to mainly to regain confidence in some of our swings, but I’m confident we’ll get there.”
BNL will host Brownstown and Scottsburg on Thursday.
