BEDFORD – A Spencer man was arrested on Monday, September 25 after Bedford Police Captain Dakoda Emmons stopped him for driving in an unsafe manner on State Road 450.
The officer was parked at Revere’s Food & Fuel when he witnessed the driver of a 2007 Dodge Ram pickup turn right on State Road 450 and spin his tires putting the truck sideways.
The officer stopped the driver near the intersection of 16th Street and James Avenue in the Long John Silver’s parking lot.
The driver was 20-year-old James Brown-Nelson, of Spencer. He was on the phone with his wife and was visibly upset telling her he was going to jail.
The officers detected the odor of alcohol and believed Brown-Nelson was intoxicated. He submitted to several field sobriety tests which he failed. He submitted to a preliminary breath test and had a 0.16% blood-alcohol content.
Brown-Nelson was detained on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a blood-alcohol content of 0.15 or above, OWI endangerment, and OWI with a prior conviction, illegal consumption of alcohol. His prior OWI convictions were on May 25, 2022, and September 28, 2022.
His wife arrived at the scene and took possession of the truck.
