LAWRENCE CO. – Make time this Sunday, October 8, to light up some kids’ eyes with the Toys for Tots Kayak run. The first annual Kayak Run supporting Toys for Tots is this weekend and you won’t want to miss out. Get a taste of the outdoors and help provide toys for kids all at once.
Kayaking will start at the Bedford Boat Ramp by the bridge at 8 a.m., Sunday morning, and will end above the dam in Williams. The run typically takes five to six hours. After the kayak run finishes, there will be a cook-out style meal with hot dogs, hamburgers, and the like provided.
Transportation from the parking area to the start area will be provided. Kayaks are not.
Participants will need to bring:
- $10
- Their own kayak
- A life jacket – You are not required to wear it as long as the life jacket is on the kayak with you.
- A whistle – Optional. In case of emergencies, it’s a quick way to let the other kayakers know someone’s fallen in.
The event also features a poker run. Cards will be drawn at the beginning of the kayaking and the end.
The winning hand and the worst losing hand will both receive trophies.
There will be a $10 fee to kayak, and all proceeds from the event go directly to Lawrence County Toys for Tots.
Toys for Tots is aimed entirely at kids. While other organizations collect clothes and necessities for the needy children of Lawrence County, Toys for Tots facilitates Christmas gifts and presents. Anything from bikes to toys.
Fill the river with Kayaks for a great cause.
