SEYMOUR – Floyd Central swept past Bedford North Lawrence in the Class 4A sectional semifinal during high school volleyball action on Saturday.
The Highlanders (22-10) advanced to the final with a 25-17, 25-14, 25-11 victory. Floyd will battle Seymour (a five-set winner over Jennings County in the first semifinal) in the championship match as it defends its sectional title.
The Stars, who also lost to Floyd in straight sets on Aug. 31, bowed out with an 8-22 record after winning their first postseason match since 2017.
“Floyd is always a tough team with a stacked front row, with solid hitters across the board,” BNL coach Whitney Carroll said. “We’re a young team with not a lot of height, and we were able to fight. I’m proud of them.”
Sammie Gratzer had 8 kills, 7 digs and 2 blocks for the Stars. Camryn Anderson totaled 3 kills and 7 digs, Isabelle Harding had 2 blocks, Trinidy Bailey added 14 assists and 10 digs, while Fallyn Johnson and Sara Williams each had a kill.
“We have had so much growth this season,” Carroll said. “We are proud of our seniors and will miss them next year. We lose outside hitter Camryn Anderson, middle Isabelle Harding and libero Kendlyn Alvey. We’re looking for people to step in and fill those roles next year. We’re excited to get to work in the offseason and build on it for next year.”
