Bluejackets close regular season with 47-7 loss to Perry Central

LEOPOLD – Mitchell High School’s regular season came to an end on Friday, losing 47-7 To Patoka Lake Athletic Conference opponent Perry Central.

The Commodores blitzed the Bluejackets early, jumping out to a commanding 33-0 lead by the end of the first half, initiating a running clock with just over eight minutes left in the third quarter.

Perry Central’s offensive attack was led by senior running back Sawyer Guillaume, who rushed for 177 yards on 15 carries with five touchdowns. In total, the Commodores racked up 399 yards of offense, all of which came on the ground with quarterback Cole Yaeger attempting just one pass in the game, which was an incompletion in the third quarter.

Mitchell scored their lone touchdown courtesy of a 60-yard completion from quarterback Kale England to Bryson Zeeks as the clock expired to end the third quarter. England finished the night 9/21 with 103 yards and was intercepted three times by the Perry Central defense. He also led the team in rushing yards on the night with 23.

This loss marks three straight for the Bluejackets, who’ve struggled since picking up back-to-back wins over Crawford County and Madison earlier in the season. Over their last three games, the team has been outscored 20-160, falling to Scottsburg, Paoli and Perry Central.

Mitchell finished the regular season with a record of 2-7 and a PLAC record of 1-4.

With their regular season now over, the Bluejackets will begin their postseason push next week, kicking off the first round of sectional play against Forest Park (5-4) on Friday in Ferdinand.

The winner of that game will move to the next round the following week, where they’ll face either Paoli (8-1) or Crawford County (0-9).
