An early celebration of America Recycles Day

MONROE CO. – When you recycle, you put waste to use because it becomes usable material, not landfill material. In addition, recycling reduces habitat destruction, the use of virgin materials, and energy, in mining resources and in manufacturing new products.

Elisa Pokral

Monroe County Solid Waste Management District’s (District) Community Outreach Coordinator Elisa Pokral says, “Science teaches us that recycling is vital to environmental health and stewardship. Recycling is uplifting because when you recycle, you help your community and the world by reducing climate change, and associated environmental pollution.”

Although November 15th is the official America Recycles Day, the Monroe County Waste Management District is celebrating the day by sharing fun music on Saturday, November 4.

“If you come at just the right time, for an approximately 30-minute period at each center, you may hear the country/folk/rock fusion music of Will Holler, besides the sound of glass and other recyclables being tossed into bins,” Pokral added.

Will Holler

Enjoy the country, folk, and rock fusion music of Will Holler during parts of that Saturday. It’s a thank you to those who recycle.

The performance will occur at around 10 a.m. at the Northeast Recycling Center, 11:15 a,m, at Ellettsville, 12:20 p.m. at Westside Recycling Center, 1:30 p.m. at South Walnut, and 2:30 p.m. at Southside Recycling Center.

Holler says, he “draws daily inspiration for music from the hills and hollers of Hoosier National Forest that surrounds his farm, Bread & Roses Gardens.”

Tom McGlasson Jr.

“As more people are able to recycle on a Saturday, the District will provide much-needed relief from the pressures of today,” said Executive Director Tom McGlasson Jr.

District services include drop-off of recyclables, year-round electronics recycling, and help with home composting. Also, bulky item disposal rotates among rural recycling centers.

Wherever you live, reducing waste creates healthy communities. Music of Will Holler, Saturday, November 4 at the District’s five recycling centers.

Management District reminds people of every day. America Recycles Day is a special day where The District thanks those who make the extra effort to sort their waste and recycle right. America Recycles Day is also a day when we remind people to reuse and repurpose items and avoid the use of disposables.

America Recycles Day is dedicated to encouraging Americans to recycle and to buy recycled products. With the growth of social entrepreneurship, more businesses are thinking “People, Planet, Profit.” This means that they are thinking about how earth-friendly choices benefit people, and the entire planet because then everyone profits.
