SCOTTSBURG – Scottsburg took advantage of seven forfeited weight classes for a 48-28 win over Bedford North Lawrence during high school wrestling action on Tuesday night.
The Stars, with multiple wrestlers recovering from injuries following Saturday’s tournament at Southport, won four matches on the mat.
“Obviously with the forfeits we knew we weren’t coming away with the team score, but the real way to look at these matches is head to head,” BNL coach Chris Branam said. “Winning four out of six matches wrestled speaks to the quality of the guys on the mat. At the end of the day, this is an individual sport and I’m proud of the individuals representing BNL.”
BNL’s Jorj Filler jumped up two weight classes to pin Trevor Hall in 3:12 at 132 pounds. Austin Clark trapped Scottsburg’s Luke Hamilton in 3:11 at 157, Ethan Stancombe overwhelmed Langdon Holbrook 13-0 for a major decision at 165, and Jaxon Powell stopped Connor McDill in 1:29 at 175.
“It was great to see Jorj bumping up a bit in weight and still able to stick his opponent,” Branam said. “Austin is gaining more and more confidence on the mat. It’s great seeing him going out and getting the pin. Ethan looked dominant in his tech fall. Jaxon rounded out the wins with another pin.”
The Stars will compete in the Bloomington South Invitational on Saturday.
