MITCHELL – A Mitchell man was arrested on Friday, December 15, on felony charges of providing a false identity and obstruction of justice.
According to a probable cause affidavit, on that day at 1:16 p.m., a Mitchell Police officer stopped the driver of a silver Chevrolet Equinox for failing to stop at a stop sign at 8th and Warren streets.
The driver was stopped at 8th and Oak Streets.
The driver identified himself as Matthew Vibbert, provided his birthdate, and stated he did not have his license with him.
The officer also requested the female passenger’s identification, which she provided.
The officer learned the driver did not have a valid driver’s license. He was issued a summons to appear in court for driving while his driver’s license was suspended.
Mitchell Police officer and his canine partner conducted a free-air sniff around the vehicle, and no drugs were found.
The passenger informed police the driver had provided the officer with a false name and date of birth. She told police the driver was actually Daniel Vibbert. Vibbert admitted he provided his brother’s identity and apologized when officers confronted him.
Daniel Vibbert was wanted on a warrant in Marion County on a weapons charge.
He was detained and transported to jail. The female passenger took possession of the vehicle and was released from the scene.
