BEDFORD – Former Lawrence County Treasurer Paula Stewart has applied for the county auditor position.
She was elected by caucus vote to complete the term of the resigning treasurer in 2009 and was subsequently elected to two terms in office.
Stewart, who is retired, has lived in Lawrence County since 1965, when her father’s job at GM transferred from Arkansas.
She and her husband, Dean, live in the Bono area and have two sons – John (Blair) and Scott (Heather). They have four beloved grandchildren – Avry, Shay, Kyson, and Nolan. Paula is the daughter of Joe Ann and the late John Morris. She and Dean attend the Mitchell First Baptist Church.
The county auditor’s office has a robust set of duties, including payroll, budget, accounts payable, tax calculation, deed transfers, and secretary to the commissioners and council.
Stewart brings a wealth of experience – banking, project management, and cash management – to the county. She pursues opportunities to work with peers and legislators to become informed and to help craft laws to improve county government. Treasurers across the state often reached out to Stewart as a mentor.
Her motto is “We’re all better together”.
Stewart’s recent credentials include serving as the Indiana County Treasurer’s Association (ICTA) President and receiving the Outstanding County Treasurer Award 2017. She was the ICTA liaison to the Association of Indiana Counties (AIC) Legislative Committee. She was also the Co-Chair of the ICTA Legislative Committee.
