BEDFORD – A Greenwood man was arrested on New Year’s Day after Bedford Police Sgt. Faheem Bade spotted him driving on a suspended driver’s license on State Road 37 at Salt Creek Bridge.
Sgt. Bade initiated a traffic stop, and the driver, 28-year-old Donald Smoot, of Greenwood, stopped near John Williams Boulevard.
While speaking to Smoot, who admitted to not having a driver’s license, Sgt. Bade detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. When asked about the odor, Smoot admitted there was marijuana in the vehicle, and he admitted to smoking some earlier in the day.
During a search of the vehicle, Sgt. Bade found a baggy containing marijuana and in Smoot’s wallet a folded $1 bill with meth residue on it.
Smoot was detained on charges of possession of meth and marijuana and transported to the Lawrence County Jail. His vehicle was towed by Stone City Service and Collision
