MITCHELL – A Bedford woman was arrested after she broke into her ex-husband’s home and took items that did not belong to her.
Barbara Taylor, 36, Bedford, faces charges of burglary, residential entry, and interfering with custody of her children.
On December 21, 2023, at 10:46 p.m., Mitchell Police officers were requested to the 300 block of South Meridian Road. Officers had been at the home earlier in the day after a report that 36-year-old Barbara Taylor had broken in. According to court records, Taylor had not lived in the home for six months. Court documents signed by Judge John Plummer III revealed that Taylor could retrieve her items from the home but only when her ex-husband was present and had been notified.
On December 20, at 2:00 p.m., Taylor entered the home with two of her friends and rendered the security cameras inoperable. She entered the home through a window on the west side of the house. While inside, she tried to conceal other cameras inside the home.
Taylor took her ex-husband’s documentation concerning custody issues, multiple cell phones, and other personal belongings.
The homeowner showed police security video showing Taylor entering the home through the window. Footage also showed Taylor wearing gloves and a hat, attempting to cover the cameras deliberately in the home.
The male also wanted to pursue charges of interference with child custody, saying she violated the court order.
The information was forwarded to the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department, and a warrant was issued for Taylor’s arrest.
