Nancy A. Ikerd, 88, of Bedford, died at 7:50 p.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Stonebridge Health Campus in Bedford.
Born February 16, 1935, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Lynn H. and Florence (Cathers) Banks. She married Larry N. Ikerd on December 7, 1951, and he preceded her in death on July 30, 2015.
Nancy was a member of D.A.R. and the Bedford Free Methodist Church. She worked in numerous roles at NSWC Crane for 28 years and retired in September 1996. Nancy volunteered for many years with the Thornton Memorial Boy’s Club Women’s Auxiliary. After her retirement, she volunteered at the Free Methodist Church and the Women’s Ministry, participating and volunteering at the Walk to AMASS and the Bible Study Fellowship. Nancy always found plenty of time for her children’s and grandchildren’s many activities.
Surviving is one sister, Linda Banks of Bloomington, and one brother, Lynn Ross (Sheila) Banks of Martinsville; three sons, Jeff Ikerd (Pam Henderson), David (Paula) Ikerd, Larry (Malissa) Ikerd; two daughters, Julie (Fred) Stout and Lisa (Tim) Ramsay, all of Bedford. Grandchildren Stacey (Damon) Bailey of Bedford, Cari (Matt) Brinegar of Bedford, Mandie (Dan) Jones of Bedford, Jessica Bailey of Bedford, Jared (Jessica) Staggs of Bedford, Bryan (Emily) Staggs of Bedford, Amy Ikerd of Indianapolis, Leah Ikerd of Miami, FL, Tatum (Landon) Baker of Bedford, Reece (Breonna) Ikerd of Indianapolis, Kayleigh (Tyler) Nickless of Bedford, Daniel (Leigh Anne) Stout of Westfield, IN; Alicia (Griffin) Bilskie of Brownsburg, IN; Austin Ramsay (Chandler Fleetwood) of Bedford, Morgan (Chris) Kester of Gold Bar, WA, and Maddie (Evan) Bickett of Charlestown, IN. Nancy had 31 great-grandchildren with another on the way this summer, and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a daughter, Susie Ikerd Staggs on November 22, 2004, and a sister, Karen Banks Grigg, on October 15, 2021.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 11, 2024, in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary, with Pastor Scott Salm officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, and from 10:00 AM until the time of the service on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
The family asks that friends consider contributions in Nancy’s memory to the American Cancer Society, the White River Humane Society, and the Susie Ikerd Memorial Scholarship through the NLCS Foundation.
