COLUMBUS – A Columbus man was arrested after police found him staggering in the roadway with a shotgun.
According to the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department, officers responded at 5:30 p.m. Saturday to the 8000 block of State Road 58 after reports of a man stumbling in the roadway armed with a shotgun.
A deputy found 34-year-old Derick Krebbs of Columbus in the road. Police held him at gunpoint and ordered him to drop the weapon several times before he finally complied.
Krebbs then refused to obey any other orders and gestured toward the weapon as if he were going to pick the shotgun up. Police say he repeatedly asked officers to shoot him.
Officers were able to secure Krebs but he became violent, kicking a deputy in the leg.
Krebs was transported to Columbus Regional Health for a medical evaluation. Police say he had a blood-alcohol level of 0.15 percent.
Krebs was medically cleared and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail on charges of public intoxication, disorderly conduct, and battery of a law enforcement officer.
