Neighbor provides teen with alcohol, teen detained

BEDFORD – A Bedford teen is facing alcohol-related charges after a Bedford Police Officer responded to the 400 block of M Street on Sunday afternoon after a report of a highly intoxicated 17-year-old female.

When police arrived at 3:38 p.m., the teen’s mother told police her daughter had been at a neighbor’s and returned intoxicated.

According to Bedford Police Officer Sarah Haluda, while speaking to the teen, officers could smell the odor of alcohol, and the teen was unsteady. Another officer spoke to the female neighbor, who denied giving the teen alcohol, but she did admit to drinking tequila. Capt. Kody Emmons said the neighbor appeared to be intoxicated.

The female teen was transported to the Bedford Police Department. The teen told police her female neighbor had sent her a message on Snapchat to come over to drink. The teen said she went across the street and drank approximately half of a 750ml bottle of tequila while in the neighbor’s vehicle. The teen admitted to drinking with the neighbor in the past. She said the neighbor always buys the alcohol they drink together.

The teen was released to her mother with a summons to appear in court on January 31 at 9:00 a.m. on a charge of illegal consumption.
