BEDFORD – A man got upset because his ex-girlfriend got married and was arrested on alcohol charges.
On Thursday, January 18, at 6:33 p.m., Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to a report of an unwanted person in the 3000 block of Old State Road 37. The caller reported an unknown person was banging on her door and attempting to enter.
Officers Thomas Porter, Benton Trueblood, and Andrew Tillett responded.
Officer Tillett arrived first at the scene but found no one. A cell phone was found beside a shed. Police then spoke to the female caller, who said the phone belonged to her boyfriend, Dustin Fletcher, and she now believes the person banging on her door was him. She said Fletcher had learned via social media his ex-girlfriend had gotten married and was agitated.
The woman told police Fletcher had been drinking before her calling, and she had dropped him off at Johnny Junxion.
When the other officers arrived, they began canvassing the area looking for Fletcher. One officer found a bottle of Four Loco.
Police then received a call of a male attempting to enter a home in the 40 block of Guthrie Road. The male was gone when officers arrived.
While searching for Fletcher on Pumpkin Drive, officers heard the female caller’s car alarm. The woman then alerted dispatch that someone was attempting to kick in her back door. Officer Trueblood and Officer Tillett ran back to the woman’s residence from Pumpkin Drive. Officer Tillett and Trueblood advised they could see a male on the residence’s back porch and hear him yelling from across the field.
The male was 29-year-old Dustin Fletcher and he was detained.
Fletcher, who police say was intoxicated, said he was upset because his ex-girlfriend was getting married.
Due to his level of intoxication, he was transported to IU Health Bedford Hospital for a medical evaluation. Fletcher remained agitated and continued to be uncooperative and yell.
Once cleared, he was transported to the Lawrence County Jail on charges of public intoxication and disorderly conduct.
