BEDFORD – On Friday, January 19, Bedford Police officers responded to the 100 block of Boyd Lane after a report that 39-year-old Michael Langley had overdosed and was not breathing.
When Officer Sarah Haluda and Major Clint Swanson arrived at 9:47 p.m., they began administering aid, including a dose of Narcan. But Langley did not respond. Bedford Fire Department first responders arrived and established an airway. Officer Zakry Brooking began to cut away Langley’s sweatshirt in preparation for an AED or automated external defibrillator. While cutting through the shirt the officer cut through a baggy containing a white powder residue. The officer then checked Langley’s pockets to see what he overdosed on and found three bindles wrapped in foil. One was fentanyl and the two others were meth.
After another dose of Narcan, Langley started to regain consciousness but was severely disoriented.
Police also found a straw that tested positive for meth on a kitchen counter.
When confronted with the fact that he overdosed, Langley denied the allegations saying he only takes Suboxone.
Police learned that Langley had traveled to Indianapolis earlier in the day and returned with the drugs they had found on him.
Langley refused to be transported by ambulance to IU Health Hospital for treatment. He was then detained and transported to IU Health Hospital for medical clearance and then transported to jail on charges of possession of meth, possession of a narcotic drug, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and neglect of a dependent.
