Seymour man strikes girl with car and is arrested

SEYMOUR– A southern Indiana man was arrested Monday after he was accused of hitting a 14-year-old girl with his car.

Authorities say 55-year-old Brian Carpenter of Seymour, Ind. struck the girl with his car while she was walking in the school crosswalk near Seymour Middle School.

The child who was hit by the car was treated for injuries to her arms. Officials say they believe she will survive.

Carpenter initially fled the scene but later called the school to check on the student. Soon after, Seymour police arrested him.

Carpenter is currently being held in the Jackson County Jail. He is charged with leaving the scene of an injury accident resulting in moderate bodily injury.

After the incident, the Seymour Police Department is urging drivers to be cautious while driving in school zones and around buses.

“Our children are our future, and it is our duty as a whole to protect their health and safety,” a Seymour Police Department Facebook post said.
