Jennifer Carol Roberts Mitchell died on Saturday, February 3, 2024, from injuries sustained in a car accident in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Jennifer was born in Bedford, Indiana, on June 6, 1962, to Owen “Shorty” Roberts and Dorothy Carol Hanson Roberts, The Photographer and the Artist. She attended Mrs. Barlow’s Preschool, Lincoln Elementary, Bedford Junior High, and Bedford North Lawrence High School, graduating in 1980. Jenny treasured her many friends and times spent with the “Gang”.
Jenny was an accomplished organist and musician with a passion for all music. From ‘Dream’ to the ‘Star Wars Theme,’ she played with all her heart while “Shorty,” also known as her “roadie,” and Dorothy were nearby with their proud and beaming smiles. Jennifer went on to attend Indiana University, graduating from IUPUI in 1984. She continued to live in Indianapolis and was always writing and creating, especially in her career in Marketing and Management.
Jennifer grew up and was baptized in the First Christian Church in Bedford, along with her family, who worshiped there. Jen loved Bedford Christian Camp and spent time at camps as a camper and later as an adult counselor working with younger campers. Camp Bedford was dear to her family. After moving to Indianapolis, Jen became active and joined the Fairview Presbyterian Church.
These last years, Jennifer found passion in her teaching position at Willow Lake Elementary School in Indianapolis. There, she greeted her students with her contagious smile and bubbly personality. She loved to send “Bubbles” out to all she met. She loved the students and her colleagues at Willow Creek.
Jennifer Roberts Mitchell is survived by her beloved sons, Benjamin Owen Mitchell, of Indianapolis, and Samuel Leroy Mitchell, of Houston, Texas. A brother, Bruce Roberts, and wife, Judy, of Cromwell, Indiana. Sister-in-law Jolene Roberts of Bedford, A sister Cynthia “Cindy” Roberts, and husband Scott of Farmland, Indiana, Nephews Bryan Roberts and Dayne Roberts, both of Bloomington, Indiana, and Joseph Roberts of Farmland, Indiana. Nieces Stephanie Hiatt and Susan Pence are both from Farmland, Indiana. Also, several great nieces and nephews and beloved cousins. Dear and special friends, Dane Haynes of Indianapolis, Susan Maxwell-Lewis, Bedford, Connie Johnson Hamilton, Columbus, Diane Allen of Indianapolis, and many others dear to her heart.
She was preceded in death by her parents and beloved aunts and uncles.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Fairview Presbyterian Church, 4609 North Capitol Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana, on Saturday, February 10th at 1:00 p.m.
A second Celebration of Life will be held in Bedford, Indiana, at the First Christian Church at 1101 15th Street, Bedford, Indiana, on June 8th, at 1:00 p.m.
