MITCHELL— Mitchell Police arrested a French Lick man on a domestic battery warrant after responding to an incident on October 19, 2023.
At 1:31 a.m., Officer Joshua Turner was notified by Central Dispatch that a female was coming to the Mitchell Police Department to report a battery.
The woman said 33-year-old Dylan Beyers had assaulted her, and he was walking south on State Road 37 from the Marathon station. The woman said Byers was making suicidal comments.
Dispatchers were able to ping Beyers’ phone, and Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputies began a search for Beyers.
Officer Turner went to the Mitchell Police Department to meet the woman.
The woman told police Beyers was still texting her with suicidal comments. She told Officer Turner this was not her first time in a physical altercation with Beyers. She said she was at the Rest Care office in Bedford finishing her shift, and she found him waiting in her car. There was a verbal argument because she had kicked him out of their home. He then began hitting her with an open hand in the back of the head several times while she was driving. He also poked her with his finger on the side of the head. She pulled into the Speedway gas station parking lot, where Beyers took her cell phone and told her if she had the gas station attendants call the police, he would hurt her and destroy her car.
They left the station and continued driving south on State Road 37 toward Mitchell. She told police Beyers continued to hit her while she was driving. Beyers ordered her to pull over on the shoulder of the road near the Marathon gas station. However, she pulled into the parking lot and told Beyers to use the restroom. Once parked, she attempted to exit the car, but Beyers allegedly grabbed her sweatshirt, pulled it tight around her neck, and would not let her exit the vehicle.
Police say there were red marks on the woman’s neck.
She was able to get away from Beyers, enter the gas station, and enter the restroom.
A few minutes passed, and Beyers entered the gas station looking for her, saying he was going to kill her. He exited the station, retrieved some items from the vehicle, and left on foot.
The station attendant walked the woman to her car, and she left and contacted police.
The woman signed a battery affidavit.
Police searched for Beyers but were unable to locate him.
The information was forwarded to the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office, and a warrant was issued for his arrest on Level 6 felony charges of strangulation, intimidation, and domestic battery.
