BEDFORD – On Wednesday, February 7, Lawrence Superior Court I Judge John Plummer III sentenced a Bedford man to the Indiana Department of Correction after failing to comply with his probation terms.
On November 3, 2023, Austin Hinton, 26, pled guilty to resisting law enforcement, a Level 6 felony, as a part of a negotiated plea agreement. He was sentenced to 910 days in the Indiana Department of Corrections, with 724 days suspended. He was ordered to serve 730 days on supervised probation.
While on probation, Hinton failed to comply with the terms of his probation. As a result, Judge Plummer III revoked Hinton’s suspended sentence and sentenced him to 724 days in prison.
Deputy Prosecutor Sarah Cummings said, “Probation is not a right in Indiana; it is a privilege extended to defendants to try to make positive changes in their lives and remain a part of the Lawrence County community. However, failing to comply with probation terms and conditions, Austin Hinton gave up the privilege of staying on probation.”
