MITCHELL – A garage fire on Woodville Road spread into the residence Saturday afternoon.
Firefighters from Marion Township Volunteer Fire Department were alerted to the blaze just after 3:00 p.m. at 1161 Woodville Road. When firefighters arrived, they found the attached garage engulfed in flames.
“The fire was already pushing its way in towards the remainder of the home,” said Assistance Chief Dane Fountain. “Marion crews attempted to ventilate the opposite side of the structure in hopes of pushing the fire back, but due to the progression of the fire and high wind activity, we were forced to go into a defensive mode for the remainder of the incident.”
Shawswick and Huron VFDs responded with tankers, Mitchell VFD responded with an engine, and secondary tones were set off for additional manpower.
“Unfortunately, The home is a complete loss, but we salvaged several things from the residence,’ added Assistant Chief Fountain. “There were no injuries, and everyone inside the residence was evacuated.”
The cause of the fire will remain under investigation and the State Fire Marshal’s office has been notified.
