BEDFORD – On Friday, February 9, Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Andrew Tillett was on patrol when he spotted a blue Ford car at the intersection of I and 5th Streets, and the driver failed to use a turn signal when turning west on 5th Street.
Deputy Tillett followed the driver, who crossed the center line and again failed to use a turn signal when turning north on N Street. Deputy Tillett conducted a traffic stop.
The driver, 48-year-old Jeremy Plummer, was intoxicated. He had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and smelled of alcohol, Deputy Tillett said. He had also urinated on himself.
Officer Brenten Trueblood arrived on the scene to assist.
Plummer failed numerous field sobriety tests and almost fell while performing them. Plummer admitted to drinking a screwdriver, a drink of Vodka and orange juice, not long before the traffic stop. Plummer was detained and transported to IU Health Bedford Hospital for a blood draw.
He was detained on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and OWI endangerment. He was also issued written warns for failure to use a turn signal and driving left of center.
His vehicle was towed from the scene by Stone City Service & Collision Center LLC.
