GREENE COUNTY- “Having your vaccinations up-to-date could save your life, especially with the eclipse coming.” Said Roger Axe, Director of Greene County Emergency Management Agency. “We have received estimates of maybe 200,000 people coming to Monroe County for the eclipse and a spillover into Greene County. Additionally, it’s possible that another 20,000 people could arrive in Greene County for the event.
Who knows where all the visitors will be coming from, what germs they will be carrying, including
Covid, how strong strains may be, and exposing local people and endangering them. The risk will
compound for our at-risk populations, such as the elderly.
That is why we are asking all persons to get their vaccinations updated now. This is more important if
people plan to view the eclipse in areas with many visitors. If you want a face mask, now is the time to make the purchase because the supply may be exhausted due to eclipse buying. Remember the shortage during the pandemic in 2020.
If you or your family are on life support, such as oxygen, we advise you to have an extra supply for the eclipse. If you run out, delivery trucks may be unable to get to you with the visitors coming and roads that may be impassable. “The best way to meet this challenge is to be prepared, not scared,” Axe said.
